I was so hungry as I walked into our kitchen to the smell of a roasting chicken in the oven.
No one was in, so I didn’t know how long it had been cooking for.
I couldn’t resist… I opened the oven door and took the chicken out.
It smelt so delicious that I just ripped a piece off and popped it in my mouth.
24 hours later, I was in bed with salmonella food poisoning and was taken out for over a week.
My little taster of ‘not quite cooked chicken’ is a powerful reminder of the importance of waiting for God’s timing in your life.
We often think that we are ready as we look through the oven door of our fiery trial. The kitchen light goes on and the oven door is opened, only to find that yet again, we are ‘not quite ready’.
Don’t be impatient, as God’s timing is perfect and is for your own good.
Too early and you’ll be heading for disaster.
My craving for food made me break all the rules that I’d learnt during my days in catering.
Instead of being satisfied, I was bed ridden and frustrated.
Be careful today to wait until you’re properly ready.
Going through a fiery trial today?
Remember… it’s just God’s oven getting you ready for your future.
1 Peter 4:12 ‘Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.’
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
