I was waiting in a queue the other day at a local coffee shop. The shop was busy and the queue was long, so I got talking to the lady in front of me. She was very friendly and proceeded to talk about Christmas and shopping.
She said something that I’ve never heard before. She said “I’ve given my family a list this year of what I don’t want.”
Now, don’t people normally write lists of what they do want and not what they don’t want!?
I’m glad that when I come to God in prayer it’s not that complicated. I don’t have to think of all the things I don’t want, He’s got that covered.
It’s ok however to bring to Him our specific prayer requests.
I remember several years ago living in a small two bedroomed home and praying specifically for what I wanted.
I didn’t pray “Lord, I don’t want a three bedroomed house, I don’t want a house without a downstairs loo, I don’t want a house without a garage. I don’t want a home without a room for guests etc etc etc.”
That all sounds too complicated for me! I came with the list of what I wanted.
“Lord, I want a four bedroomed house, with a porch, a downstairs loo and a garage”. And guess what? God answered.
Vague prayers = vague answers.
Be specific in your requests. He’s your Heavenly Father. He knows your needs before you ask Him. (Matthew 6 v 8)
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
