DAY 5 – prayer and fasting
Are you in a desperate situation today?
Jehoshaphat, King of Judah was. He found himself surrounded by a powerful enemy army – Annihilation was certain without God’s intervention.
The Bible records in 2 Chronicles 20:2-4 Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” which is En Gedi. And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gathered together to ask help from the Lord; and from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.
He desperately needed to know God’s plan in order to defeat this great army and so asked everyone, even the children, to fast and seek God.
As they did this God spoke and said…“Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17)
As the people fasted and prayed, God told them exactly how the enemy would approach and exactly what they should do in response.
As they obeyed what God had said, they not only defeated the enemy in just one day, they then took a further three days to carry off the all the riches that the enemy had left behind -now that’s what you call a victory!
Do you want God to tell you what to do at this time in your life? Fast, worship and pray. Be still and see Him work on your behalf – they didn’t even have to fight…God fought for them.
The promise of God for you today is…stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. He will fight for you, and not only that, you will take back everything that the enemy has stolen from you too.
Your prayers and fasting WILL bring a reward.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
