Prior to the birth of Jesus, we find in the Old Testament hundreds of commands that people would aim to obey in order to please God.
Now of course, this was an impossible task to adhere to. Every time one of these commands was broken, so would their relationship with God also be considered broken.
In order to put things right, you were then required to present a sacrifice, and in doing so, your relationship with God would be restored.
Now if you’re like me, by this point I am pretty exhausted just thinking about the weight of these religious exercises. Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there…
When Joseph is met by an angel, who informs him that Mary is going to give birth to a baby boy, they’re instructed to give Him the name Jesus. This name Jesus, means ‘Saviour’, because He would save people from their sins.
Notice, the very thing that up until now had prevented people from having a relationship with God is the very thing that Jesus would come to remove.
You may be thinking, what does this have to do with me in 2017? I’m glad you asked…
It means that because of Jesus, you now have the right to have a relationship with God. A relationship with God that wasn’t earned by you and therefore cannot be unearned by you. You didn’t qualify yourself for it and neither can you disqualify yourself from it.
It means that God’s love towards you and His desire to have relationship with you is totally predicated upon Himself.
And the Bible says that all you have to do is simply confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is who He says He is, and you will be saved!
Can I invite you at this special time of year to enter into a relationship with your creator, the God of Heaven and Earth? He’s only one invitation away…
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
