Centuries ago, wine was stored in leather wine skins rather than bottles. When the wine skins were new, they were soft and pliable, but as they aged they became hardened and couldn’t expand. If new wine was poured in an old wine skin, the container would burst and the wine would be lost.
When Jesus wanted to encourage His followers to enlarge the capacity of their lives, He reminded them, ” You can’t put new wine into old wine skins”( Matthew 9 v 17). He was saying that you cannot have a larger life if you have an old restricted mind. Don’t be fooled into thinking that having an old wine skin only relates to those that are older in age; You can be young in age, and yet still have thinking that has already got old and hardened.
Ask yourself this question: Have I already developed a mind set that says thatI’ll never do anything successful or enjoy the good things in life that I used to dream of?
Today, I encourage you to stretch your faith, your vision and your mind in order to get rid of that old restrictive stinking thinking — it’s holding you back from all that God has got for your life.
Start to make room in your life for the much bigger things that God has in store for you. You must conceive them in your mind and heart before you can receive them in reality, otherwise they will simply pass right through you.
This pandemic has maybe already caused you to shrink back with your life, but now you need to allow it to push your forward into all the new possibilities that God has for you.
Ask yourself a simple question: If God poured a new dream into your life today would it just quickly disappear through the cracks of your old attitude?
The key today is to allow your heart to become pliable and supple again to all of the great things that God has in store for you. He’s never short on ideas for your life, but you maybe short on space to contain them.
Pray right now, and ask the Holy Spirit to drench you with His presence in order to soften your heart and make you pliable once again.
Expect Gods favour to help you break out the rut that you’re in and expect to excel in whatever you do.
Expect great things from God…attempt great things for God.
A daily devotion for a better way of living.
